The monthly statement that lists their mutual funds
If you can open their email, one consolidated statement can name every fund house they used. Here is what it is, who sends it, and what it cannot tell you.
What a CAS is
A consolidated account statement, or CAS, puts a person's mutual fund transactions in one statement, across all the folios that share the same PAN. It also shows their holdings in demat form. AMFI, the mutual fund industry body, explains it on its page about the CAS.
Who sends it, and when
- The depositories, NSDL and CDSL, issue it for investors whose PAN is common to a fund registrar and a depository. For folios held only with fund houses, the fund houses produce it.
- The registrars CAMS and KFintech provide electronic CAS services.
- AMFI says it is sent by the 10th of the following month, for a month in which there was a transaction. The soft copy, called an e-CAS, goes to the email address on record.
What to look for in their email
Search their inbox for "consolidated account statement". Look too for the sender names CAMS, KFintech, NSDL and CDSL, and for the word "folio". Open one. It lists each fund house and folio with opening and closing balances, and transactions such as purchases, redemptions, switches and SIPs. That list is your trail: each fund house or folio is something to follow up.
What you cannot conclude
- A month with no transactions may bring no statement, so a fund they stopped using may not appear in recent emails. Look further back.
- It covers mutual funds and demat holdings. It does not show bank accounts or insurance.
- AMFI's page does not mention deceased investors, and the registrar pages we read do not describe a way for a legal heir to ask for a deceased person's statement. Their email is the practical route we can point to.
After you find a fund
Each fund house has its own process for transferring the units of someone who has died. KFintech's guidance names Form T3 for a nominee or legal heir, and the documents needed depend on the value. Start with our mutual-fund transmission guide, then use the fund house's current form and checklist.
This guide describes official pages as we read them on 1 October 2026. They change, so confirm on the page before you act.
